Travel planning : if you are driving to Wikimania and would like to rideshare, note where you are coming from and the route you plan to take. If you are planning a trip around Wikimania, and would like company, note your general route and timeline. If you are interested in sharing a rental car, note where you are coming from.

And if you live near Cambridge and can put up visitors around the conference dates, note this and what languages your household knows, if appropriate :)

How to Get to the Conference

See Getting to and around Cambridge!

Driving

Harvard Law School has decent driving directions. For those of you bringing cars, be aware that parking is not readily available around Harvard Square. Street parking is often very difficult to find. Most of it is limited to 2 hours, metered, or requires a Cambridge parking permit. Parking garages are available near the square, but they can be expensive.

Another option is to park at one of the MBTA park and ride garages and take the subway from there. These often fill up on weekday mornings but are generally available over the weekend and cost $5 per day. The one at Alewife station is particularly convenient. It is just three stops on the Red Line from Harvard station (take Inbound). From the Massachusetts Turnpike, take I-95 north to the Route 2 east exit and follow Route 2 to exit 61.

For those of you staying near Harvard, it might be better to take public transportation or to walk to the university than to try to drive.

Local Airports

Logan International Airport is the airport in Boston. It is the closest airport to Cambridge. Logan's airport code is BOS. International flights can land at Logan.

The Manchester Airport in Manchester, New Hampshire, and T.F. Green in Providence, Rhode Island, are airports within about an hour's drive of Boston and Cambridge. Many inexpensive airlines serve Providence and Manchester. It is possible to get from downtown Providence to Boston via commuter rail. Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts, about 20 minutes away from Cambridge, has flights to and from Trenton, New Jersey.

Local Train Stations

Amtrak, the major American rail company, serves several stations in the Boston area. South Station is one of the area's major transit hubs. It is also on the Red Line, the subway line that goes to Cambridge. Amtrak also arrives at North Station, which is on the Green Line, and Back Bay station on the Orange Line.

Bus Lines

do u like desert, oasis, ancient cities [1] Many major bus lines serve Boston. Most arrive at and depart from South Station, which is also a stop on the Red Line, the subway line that goes through Cambridge.

Several inexpensive buses travel from New York City to South Station, like the Fung Wah bus and Lucky Star. They usually cost about $15. It's one of the cheapest ways to travel between New York and Boston. They usually leave almost every hour. It's about a 4 hour trip by bus or car from New York to Boston. Many people recommend traveling that way.

For those of you hoping for a luxurious way to travel between New York and Boston, there's LimoLiner Bus. It offers television, reclining seats, and Internet access.

Dahlia Bus, which is slightly more expensive than the Chinatown buses, offers service directly to Harvard Square. It has a limited schedule, though.

The Greyhound Bus is sometimes more expensive, but also offers pretty comprehensive coverage of the US. Its trips from New York CIty's Port Authority station to Boston's South Station are comparable in price to the Chinatown buses, especially if purchased in advance on the internet.

To learn more about traveling from South Station to Cambridge, please visit Getting to and around Cambridge.

It's probably not wise to travel by bus or car out of New York City north between 4 and 7 pm on the weekdays because rush hour is rather intense and continues into Connecticut.
